Around the largest bus hub in the region was a moribund assemblage of surface parking, city corporate yard, one- and two-story office space, and hidden-away park space.
Transit Village was a development effort focused on creating a living and working urban center in response to the thousands of daily bus riders currently traversing the site.
One of the earliest projects to actively envisage an embrace of the LA River, the project explored concepts of terraced access, localized damming and release, and an internal project network of canals and water features.
With the ability to economically excavate for the substantial parking requirements of Metro and the new development combined in a single consolidated project, the surface was freed for residential, office, retail, and recreational uses.
